Arjit Singh

“My chachaji survived Jallianwala Bagh in 1919, but then he died at Darbar Sahib in 1984.”

Arjit Singh remembers getting the call in June that his uncle, who was more like a dear friend, never returned home. Hazura Singh boarded a train for a short trip to Amritsar, where he was scheduled to undergo eye surgery. He planned to spend the night at Darbar Sahib, sleeping on the parkarma. That was the night the army attacked.

For weeks, the family tried to find him. They spoke to a connection in the military who told them there was no hope that Hazura Singh would be found.

“There are so many bodies. Nothing can be known,” the officer told them.
