Deep Kamal Singh

Deep Kamal Singh lived in Jalandhar, Punjab during the time of the 1984 attacks. Though not physically affected, he speaks about the deep psychological effect the incident left on his identity and sense of self. The immeasurable losses, he says, are the devastation of our historical literature and artifacts, and the loss of almost an entire generation of Sikhs.

“If you aren’t free to wear what you want to, or what your faith asks you to, how are you free?”

Singh recounts how the violence started long before the 1984, and the alienation of a minority community continued long after.
