Amarjit Kaur
Amarjit Kaur remembers how her brother got caught up during anti-Sikh attacks in Haryana, even before the Army’s June 1984 attack on Punjab. Her brother, who came home beaten & bruised, had been taken off a bus by a large group of attackers and beaten. He witnesses other attackers put petroleum on a car of Sikhs. Eventually, he was saved by a Hindu truck driver, who brought him home to Chandigarh. Amarjit also recounts how her father was deeply affected by the trauma of 1984, and died soon after. She expresses her sadness at the loss on multiple levels: personal, familial, communal.
